Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery)
Nose Surgery, known as Rhinoplasty, is a one of the most commonly performed plastic surgery procedures. Rhinoplasty can change a person’s nose in many different ways, whether a person would like their nose made smaller, larger or whether they simply want their nose to be a different shape, all in an effort to make the face more symmetrical and attractive, as well as to increase self-confidence. Reconstructive rhinoplasties can also be performed to fix injuries like broken noses or birth defects.
Rhinoplasties are not always performed for cosmetic perposes, but for functional reasons as well. Often, nose reshaping surgeries like septoplasties or endoscopic sinus surgeries are performed to correct a deviated septum, which causes breathing problems.
Goals of Rhinoplasty
Nose Surgery, or Rhinoplasty, can be used to meet the following goals:
- Give the nose more balance among the other facial features
- Adjust the width of the nose at its bridge
- Adjust the profile of the nose by removing any bumps or indentations
- Change the size of the tip of the nose that is too big, droopy, turned upward, or boxy-looking
- Adjust the space and angle between the mouth and nose
- Change and reduce the shape of the nostrils
- Make the nose more symmetrical and correct any deviation
Frequently Asked Questions
I currently experience trouble breathing. Will my health insurance cover my nose surgery?
It’s possible that your health insurance company will cover part of the expense for the surgery and anesthesia. Bring your insurance card to your first consultation with Ritacca and we sill take steps to determine what your level of insurance coverage will be. The only fee required at your consultation is your co-pay.
Am I even a candidate for nose surgery?
If you are unhappy with the look and shape of your nose and don’t have a problem with undergoing surgery, you are eligible for a rhinoplasty consultation with one of Ritacca’s doctors, as long as you are in good health, both physically and mentally. During your consultation, the doctor will give you an examination and speak with you in great detail about your expectations for the surgery. Then the doctor will explain what types of results he expects will come of your surgery, and will decide whether or not a rhinoplasty is appropriate for you.
Does a Rhinoplasty involve an overnight hospital stay?
Rhinoplasties are outpatient surgeries, so patients do not have to stay overnight. Patients can return home following the surgery, or can stay in one of many great hotels in the area if they are from out of town.
Will nausea or pain accompany my Rhinoplasty surgery?
Patients do not generally experience a lot of pain or nausea after receiving a Rhinoplasty. Following surgery, a mild narcotic is prescribed to patients to control any pain.
